

About the Department
The Department of ECE was established in the year 2001. The Department is recognized as Research centre by VTU, Belagavi. Faculty members have expertise in diverse areas of ECE, such as Embedded Systems , VLSI, Biomedical Engineering, Image Processing ,Antenna Design, Communication Networks ,Wired and Wireless Communication. There has been Good performance in Academic and Co-Curricular activities by students, with consistent performance in university exams and placement of the students in Core Companies.
The Department of ECE has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with well-known firms such as Tessolve Semiconductors, KPIT, Nanochip Pvt Ltd, Qualcomm University Program and N.I.E.L.I.T.
A good number of Paper Publications have been contributed by both Faculty and Students. Faculty have published Books and Book chapters. The Department conducts a number of activities like Guest Lectures, Hackathons, Workshops, Competitions & Conferences.
Faculties are Members of BOE and BOS under VTU as well as Autonomous colleges. Professional societies like IEEE and IETE operate for the benefit of faculty and students to enhance their skills. Special sessions are arranged to prepare the students for Placements/ GATE examinations. Faculty of the Department offer minor and major projects in their Domains of Expertise. The Department Club Splash is a platform where the students showcase their cultural talents. Students are also encouraged to participate in Sports events at the college level and University level.

Mission
The Department of Electronics and communication Engineering promotes an intellectual and ethical environment in which the strengths and skills of Electronics Professionals will flourish by:
- 1. Achieving and fostering excellence in core Electronics and Communication engineering with focus on hardware, simulation and design.
- 2. Pursuing Research, development and consultancy to achieve self-sustenance.
- 3. Preparing industry ready graduates by providing skill training and nurturing innovation and creativity.
The graduates of the department will be able to:
- PSO1: Apply knowledge of Electronic circuits and Communication systems in the design, development and analysis of integrated electronic systems to enhance human life.
- PSO2: Demonstrate competence in using Modern hardware languages, IT tools and create innovative electronic technologies as per industry standards.
ECE Graduates, within three-five years of graduation should be able to:
- PEO1: Apply fundamental concepts obtained from mathematics, basic sciences and engineering subjects to solve challenging problems in Electronics, Communication and allied disciplines.
- PEO2: Exhibit technical and analytical skills for the design and development of innovative and cost effective solutions.
- PEO3: Pursue higher education and participate in Lifelong learning to emerge as good human beings and responsible citizens.
- PEO4: Adapt to rapid changes in tools and technology and work in multidisciplinary fields to come up with new sustainable technologies catering to societal needs.
- PEO5: Cultivate skills which helps in building leadership qualities, entrepreneurships, effective communication and ethics needed for a successful professional career.
- Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
- Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
- Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
- Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
- Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
- The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
- Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
- Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
- Individual and teamwork: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.
- Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.
- Project management and finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.
- Life-long learning: Recognize the need for and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change

Prop 25 – Project Open House
The Department of ECE, RNS Institute of Technology organized Prop 25 – Project Open House for 5th and 7th semester students was held on 6th December 2025 to showcase their innovative ideas and projects. Industry experts and company representatives were invited as judges to evaluate the exhibits. The event provided a platform for practical exposure, and outstanding projects were recognized and awarded with prizes.

Workshop on ARM Cortex M3 and Embedded Systems
The Department of ECE, RNS Institute of Technology, organized 5 days hands on workshop on ARM Cortex-M3 and Embedded Systems from Feb 10th to 14th ,2026. The program covered architecture, programming, and real-time applications, along with hands-on sessions. It enabled participants to strengthen their understanding of embedded system design and effectively integrate these concepts into teaching and research.

Offline Bootcamp on RTL IP Integration (SoC)
The Department of ECE, RNS Institute of Technology conducted a 5-day Offline Bootcamp on RTL IP Integration (SoC) , providing students with hands-on exposure to RTL design and IP integration. The program enhanced their practical understanding of SoC development and industry-relevant tools.

Hackathon : Turning Embedded ideas into reality
The Department of ECE, RNS Institute of Technology conducted a two-day Hackathon on ‘Turning Embedded Ideas into Reality,’ held from Friday, 6th March to 7th March 2026. The event fostered creativity, collaboration, and hands-on learning, empowering students to transform their embedded system concepts into practical solutions.

STM32 Creation: Turning Embedded Ideas into Reality
The Department of ECE, RNS Institute of Technology conducted the Project Expo on ‘STM32 Creation: Turning Embedded Ideas into Reality’ for students on 5th March 2026. The event provided a dynamic platform for students to showcase innovative embedded system projects, enhance practical knowledge, and explore real-time applications. It encouraged creativity, technical skills, and hands-on learning, making it a highly enriching and inspiring experience for all participants.

Overview of 5G and Career Opportunities
The Department of ECE, RNS Institute of Technology conducted An Expert Talk on “Overview of 5G and Career Opportunities” on March 13, 2026. The session was delivered by Mr. Devadasa Pai B, Founder and CEO of NanoCell Networks Pvt. Ltd., who provided valuable insights into the fundamentals of 5G technology, its evolution, and real-world applications.

E-MERGE
The Department of ECE, RNS Institute of Technology successfully organized Department fest E-MERGE 2025 on October 10 and 11, 2025. The event was conducted by the student club Splash . Various technical, cultural, and fun events such as treasure hunt, hackathon, BGMI, Turbo Trivia, and tug of war were conducted. The fest also featured exciting on-stage performances including dance, singing, and ramp walk. The event provided a vibrant platform for students to showcase their talents and teamwork.

Workshop
The Department of ECE, RNS Institute of Technology, organized a 2-day hands on workshop in association with “IEEE SPS Bangalore Chapter” on September 5th & 6th for 3rd & 5th semester students. The sessions focused on real-time speech processing applications using Raspberry Pi, providing students with practical exposure and interactive learning experience
