About the Department

The Department of Computer Science and Business Systems at RNS Institute of Technology is built on a simple but powerful conviction: technology is most impactful when it is understood in the context of the business problems it solves. Offered in strategic collaboration with Tata Consultancy Services, the program prepares graduates who are equally at home writing software and navigating corporate environments — professionals who lead with both code and clarity.

The curriculum is grounded in the essentials of computer science — programming, algorithms, data structures, and software engineering — and woven through with the business intelligence that turns technical skill into professional impact: management principles, communication, budgeting, and project planning. What sets this program apart is the active role TCS plays in shaping and continuously monitoring the syllabus. The result is a course of study that stays in step with what industry actually demands — not what it demanded a decade ago.

Learning here goes beyond lectures. Students take on real projects, complete industry internships, and work through collaborative assignments designed to build the kind of practical intuition that no textbook can fully teach. The department places deliberate emphasis on critical thinking, effective teamwork, and the ability to communicate with confidence across technical and non-technical audiences — because those are the skills that define professionals who don’t just do the job, but shape how it gets done.

Vision

To build globally competent Computer Science and Business Systems professionals who excel in digital innovation, business transformation, and responsible societal leadership.

Mission

  • Impart strong foundations in computing, analytics, and business systems through outcome-based, learner-centric, and industry-integrated education.
  • Instill professional ethics, critical thinking, communication, teamwork, and interdisciplinary competencies for holistic development.
  • Inspire innovation, entrepreneurship, research, and leadership with a global outlook, sustainability mindset, and societal responsibility.

PSOs define domain-specific competencies unique to the CSBS programme, distinguishing its graduates within the broader engineering landscape.

  • Ability to design and develop software solutions integrating computer science principles with business systems and data analytics.
  • Ability to apply digital technologies and analytical tools to solve business problems, support decision-making, and drive enterprise transformation.

Programme Outcomes define the knowledge, skills, and attitudes graduates are expected to possess at the time of graduation. PO 1–PO 11 align with NBA Graduate Attributes applicable to the CSBS programme.

  • Engineering knowledge: Apply knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and computing to solve complex engineering problems.
  • Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, research literature, and analyse complex engineering problems using first principles of mathematics and engineering sciences.
  • Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and systems that meet specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health, safety, cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  • Investigations of Complex Problems: Use research-based knowledge and methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data to provide valid conclusions.
  • Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools to complex engineering activities with an understanding of their limitations.
  • The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal, and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to professional engineering practice.
  • Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts and demonstrate knowledge of and need for sustainable development.
  • Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of engineering practice.
  • Individual and teamwork: Function effectively as an individual and as a member or leader in diverse teams and in multidisciplinary settings.
  • Communication: Communication Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and society at large; write effective reports, design documentation, and make effective presentations.
  • Project management and finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of engineering and management principles and apply these to manage projects in multidisciplinary environments.

PEOs describe what graduates are expected to attain within three to five years of graduating, reflecting the expectations of employers, higher-education institutions, and society.

HOD's Message

The future belongs to those who are prepared for it — and at the Department of Computer Science and Business Systems, we make sure our students are.

We are a department driven by one clear purpose: to transform bright, ambitious individuals into global leaders who can build, innovate, and inspire. Our program brings together the best of technology and business, backed by industry partnerships with TCS and Samsung, to give every student an education that is as relevant as it is rigorous. Here, learning is not passive — it is energising, challenging, and deeply connected to the opportunities that await in the real world.

Our faculty are more than educators — they are mentors who invest personally in every student’s growth. You will be guided with genuine care, stretched to discover what you are truly capable of, and supported every step of the way. We take pride in knowing our students by name, understanding their ambitions, and doing everything in our power to help them realise those ambitions.

The results speak for themselves. Our alumni are thriving across industries and geographies, carrying the foundation built here into remarkable careers and ventures worldwide. That is the standard we hold ourselves to — and it inspires us to raise the bar higher every year.

If you are ready to grow, to lead, and to make your mark on the world, this is the place to begin. We are excited to walk that journey with you.

Samsung Innovation Campus (SIC) — Centre of Excellence

The Samsung Innovation Campus (SIC), established at RNSIT in 2024 under the Centre of Excellence and powered by a ₹1 Crore investment from Samsung, is more than a facility — it is a launchpad for the innovators, creators, and technologists of tomorrow. Driven by the CSBS department and formalized through an exclusive MoU, the campus gives students access to three transformative courses — Coding and Programming, Artificial Intelligence, and Internet of Things — all curated and delivered with Samsung’s global expertise. Notably, these courses are formally incorporated into RNSIT’s Autonomous Curriculum as a Summer Internship, ensuring students earn academic recognition while gaining hands-on, industry-aligned experience.
