VTU Minor Degree — Overview

A Minor Degree is an additional qualification awarded alongside the main B.E. degree, introduced by VTU in alignment with NEP 2020. A Minor degree program is a secondary focused area of study that complements a student’s major or primary degree program. While the major is the primary field of specialization, a minor allows students to explore additional interests or gain expertise in a different discipline. To enhance employability skills and impart deep knowledge in emerging areas that are usually not covered in the undergraduate Degree credit framework, AICTE has come up with the concept of a ‘Minor Degree’ in emerging areas.

It allows students to gain expertise in a specialized area outside their core branch of engineering.

The program is designed to promote interdisciplinary learning and enhance employability.

The Minor is indicated on the degree certificate (e.g., B.E. in Mechanical Engineering with Minor in Artificial Intelligence / Data Science / Cyber Security)

Eligibility Criteria

The student must be enrolled in a regular B.E./B. Tech Program in a VTU-affiliated college.

A minimum CGPA of 5.0 at the end of 3rd semester is generally required to apply.
